So It begins!

12" of new snow here in 4 hours. Looking good.

I will be discontinuing this blog and posting trail reports on our Facebook page Chesuncook Snowmobile Club and Chesuncook Lake House and on  Sledmaine.com

The rumors are TRUE! We have incorporated the Ragged Trail system into the Chesuncook Trail system. We will be grooming the Ragged section with the same equipment that Ragged used in the past. Our heartfelt thanks to the guys at Ragged Riders SC for decades of fantastic grooming. The RR SC is not gone. They will still be maintaining and grooming the club trails around the Ragged area. Stop and say Hi to them!

The Chesuncook SC will also be grooming the OLD ROCK-PILE trail on ITS 86 in the Abol Bridge area. I say OLD b/c the rock pile was removed this fall and replaced with dirt and gravel, and now snow! The bridge was also replaced between First and Second Debsconeag Lakes and is in excellent shape. We where short almost $10K on State reimbursed funds on this project, please stop by Abol Bridge StoreThe Northern Restaurant and feed the trail fund jar. It's your trail too!

Needless to say we'll be busy. And posting to a blog is another thing to do. So Facebook it is and Sledmaine.com has is a great online Forum for Maine Snowmobiling and is. We will be posting to those daily with trail conditions and snowfall amounts from Abol Bridge, Ragged, and Chesuncook Regions.

Thanks for reading. Join us on the new forum and Facebook.

Still riding. Ice out contest coming up!

We're still riding in some of the best Spring conditions I can remember in 16 years. The Lake House is closed, but the gas pump is on as always this time of year. :) Honor system please! Red Foldger's container, make you own change. We rode 138 miles today north of Chesuncook to Russel Mt. and a lot of side roads. Unreal, 40's and sunny. 30F now so it will all freeze up tonight. Headed to Allagash Lake for another hot dog roast tomorrow :).

Best put in, bottom of Chesuncook or Caribou. Enjoy, and be careful, a lot of "freshets". Word of the day!

Last Grooming Report of 2013, CLOSED 3/31/2013

Just finished a 32 mile run to the Spencer Mt. Road on the Ragged Loop Trail. 99.8% snow coverage. A few bare spots here and there, overall great conditions and still plenty of snow on and off trail. As of last weekend the ice out front was holding at 4' thick. Lake is a little slushy with some snow spots here and there. Temps where in the high 20's overnight froze up most of the water. 30F now. Enjoy the Spring Riding!

We will be closed for the season on 3/31/13. If you need gas call a day ahead and we'll make arrangements.

Last groomer run of 2013

The Chesuncook SC will groom our trails one more time for the 2013 season, Friday night 3/29. We will be grooming the 31 miles from the village to the Spencer Mt Road on the Ragged Loop Trail. Riders coming in today say there is still plenty of snow to ride and groom. We will also groom the connectors to the trains. Look for our trail report late Friday night.

The Lake House will be closing at the end of the day on Saturday 3/30 for the 2013 winter season. We hope to see you, if not thank you very very much for a great winter, we had a lot of fun and a lot of great memories, hope you did too. Our very best to all of you. 8 months of boney sledding coming up so be careful out there.

3/21 Trail Report

After 18-24" of fresh snow the grooming was a little slow, but excellent! Should be the best riding of the season. Chesuncook trails are all groomed and spoke with the Ragged Rider's groomer. They groomed Farrah Mt, Black Pond, Maxfield Brook and Spencer Mt trails. +20F this morning so the trails should have set up real good.

Snow and trails

15" of snow fell overnight. Hard to believe that it is the first day of Spring. Given the snowfall we will be out grooming tonight. Anyone riding today will have great time. Trails under those 15" of snow was in great shape before, have fun.
