Snow and Trails

Picked up another 10-12" of fluff last night. Gives us 4-5' out there. Perfect day (+25F) to clean up the snow and shovel roofs again! Second time this year.

We will be grooming all night. Busy weekend ahead.

Cold again!

-27F right now with a low of -35F earlier this morning. Very crisp out there. Very quiet, just the cracking of the trees as the sun heats them up.

Re-supply Day! UPDATE 2

Down at the trucks. Now's the fun part, load up the the truck with totes, mail, returnables, UPS stuff. We figure everything gets handled a minimum of 5 times, by the the time it gets put away at the lodge. Even in the summer we have a 17 mile boat ride from the bottom of the lake and everything goes in totes then too.

That yellow toboggan can hold 12 totes on the bottom row and whatever else you can load on top. We returned to the parking area 13 hrs later and filled it completely. It measures 3'H x 2 1/2'W x 8' long. Everyone calls it a bathtub!

Heading out.

Re-supply Day! UPDATE

We have been flat out since our day to town. We have guests staying in the cabins this weekend and have to get the fires going in the wood stoves. I will download the pictures from our re-supply day shortly. That day was a long day.

Re-supply Day!

A beautiful day on tap for today. -8F.

Consider this next time you stop at the grocery store. We'll leave here by snowmobile. Sled 4 miles out to the trucks (yahoo, usually it's 14 miles to the trucks). Load our gear, then drive 1-1 1/2 hours on dirt roads then another hour on pavement right up to the grocery store. Average time 2 - 2 1/2 hours ONE WAY! I'll bring the camera and post some pics tomorrow.

This will last 2 weeks depending on how many sledders come by, generally we ask guests to make a stop at the store for us on their way up.

Have a nice day!

Webcam and weather

Sorry for the webcam delay this morning, snowed pretty good overnight. Had to brush off the dish. Picked up another 6"+ of fluff. Snow or more snow, it's +10F. Finally catch up on some outdoor work with the weather this balmy and all.

Ice fishing on Chesuncook Lake

Still pretty quiet in this area. We have had an ice shack set up off Gero island sine January 1. Not a lot of action, but it's picking up. My oldest boy pulled out a 18" salmon, and a 25" cusk. My other sons weren't so lucky. They said there was plenty of action, just no keepers. "That's all that matters" I told them, keep fishin, you'll get em sooner or later.

They have dubbed the ice shack the "sauna". They keep a pot of boiling water on the heater all the time. From the outside you can see the steam shooting out of every nook and cranny, looks likes a big presure cooker. At -0 deg. it's a nice place to hang out.

We'll keep you posted.

Snowmobile Trails

Great riding yesterday. I asked my sons when we returned home, "how many miles"? The youngest stated "59.4 Dad", so that makes it official! Fantastic riding! Went down to Lobster Lake then just cruising around, showed my sons all sorts of trails. The trails up here change year to year based on timber harvesting operations. The basic routes remain the same.

I suspect we will start riding north of here for the rest of the season, fewer sleds, and better conditions.

Ride safe!

Snowmobiling

Yes, we just broke +0 deg. F . It's been snowing all morning. Very light and dry. Had a bunch of snowmobilers come by yesterday. Looks like me and boys will go for a little toot, say 50+ miles after lunch. Have to combat cabin fever somehow.

Ice Fishing Today, cold or not!

-12 now and a low of -34 right before sunrise. Heading out with friends to do a little ice fishing. Sorry that secret spot's not on the webcam.

Coooldest!

At -37.5F last night this 145 year old house cracked, banged and moaned and groaned. All I could picture was Ol man winter squeezing it between both hands, trying to get the heat out. Now at -25, the suns out and things are warming up.

Missed our all time low temp set in Jan 2001 of -38F! This is our 10th winter here. At least the winds not blowing.

Stay warm! If your out sledding this weekend stop in and warm up.

Cooolder

-26F this morning. Still +70 inside! The buffalo proved me wrong yesterday and stayed out in the sun. The wind calmed down and the buffs came out of the woods for the day. I've been asked to zoom out on the webcam, so I'll do it and see how it goes. Let me know what everyone prefers.

Cooold

Looks like a cold snap for the next couple of days. We had 29F above yesterday afternoon, now -2F this morning, with more to come. Oh well, a comfortable 70F inside. Good luck seeing the buffalo, they head into the woods with the cold and the wind.

Took a sled ride yesterday to Little Lobster Lake then over to Lobster Lake, 48 miles round trip. You can pick up the Ragged Trail at the south end of the Lobster Lake, then get on to the Moosehead Loop. Did not see a soul, just 5 bull moose, trying to shed their antlers. Found one small shed right in the middle of the road, more to come.

Should be great riding this weekend. Received another 10" of powder over the last 2 days. Brings our totals to around 3-4 feet of powder off trail and a good solid trail of 2 feet of packed snow base. Groomed last night. PLENTY OF POWDER EVERYWHERE!!!!

Stay Dry!

Trails

We have a good base of 2-3 feet of powder with 3-4" crust on top. It's GREAT riding just about everywhere up here. The lake out has around 14" of good clear ice with 4-8" off crusty snow on top, little wavy. We had sledders come by yesterday and told us that lakes south of here have as little 2-3" of ice on them.

The trial from the Pine Stream Rd is groomed. Pine Stream Rd to mile 9 is plowed, but not posted. The Poulin Rd is not plowed.

Happy Trails!
